Prepare your upgrade

Select what you already have, then check off your preparation steps. Nothing is uploaded or saved.

Switch copy → Nintendo Switch 2

For an existing physical or digital copy. The upgrade pack requires Hollow Knight; it is not the full game.

Have your Switch copy and purchasing Nintendo account available. Keep a physical game card available if that is your copy.
Open the official Hollow Knight Switch 2 upgrade pack and check base-game access. Make sure it is Hollow Knight, not Silksong.
Review the offer before downloading. Team Cherry announced a free upgrade; if your offer is unclear, ask Nintendo support before paying.

Purchased PS4 digital copy → PS5

Use the purchasing account. A subscription licence is a separate route below.

Sign in to the account owning the purchased PS4 game on PS5.
Find Hollow Knight in the Store or game hub. Select the PS5 upgrade offer and review it.
Choose Download after checking the offer. If it unexpectedly asks for payment, check ownership and contact PlayStation support before buying again.

PS4 disc → PS5 with a disc drive

Sony’s eligible-disc process requires a working disc drive. A disc cannot supply the licence to a PS5 without one.

Check that your PS5 has a disc drive and your PS4 disc matches your PlayStation account country or region.
Insert the PS4 disc, open the game hub and review the PS5 upgrade offer before downloading. If no offer appears, ask PlayStation support.
Keep the PS4 disc inserted each time you play the upgraded digital version. Downloading does not replace the disc licence.

PS Plus access → check your entitlement

Current eligibility is not confirmed here. Team Cherry’s Game Catalogue issue was a historical report, not proof of today’s status.

Identify whether you bought the game, claimed a monthly PS Plus benefit, or access the Game Catalogue.
In your account, open the Hollow Knight PS5 listing and review the version and offer. A public listing does not prove your account owns it.
If the PS5 offer is missing or paid, ask PlayStation support before buying again. We have not verified a resolution for every entitlement.

Xbox copy → Xbox Series X|S

The official Voidheart Edition listing supports Xbox One and Series X|S. No specific delivery system or subscription entitlement is promised here.

Use the Xbox account with access to Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition on your Series X|S.
Check your library and available game updates. Compare the title with the official store listing below.
If installation or access is unclear, ask Xbox support before purchasing another copy. A Game Pass listing is not permanent ownership.

What this upgrade covers

On 5 February 2026, Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with higher frame rates, higher resolutions and additional effects. The studio said existing Switch, PS4 and Xbox players could upgrade for free. You still need access to the original game. This is Hollow Knight, not Hollow Knight: Silksong or its Sea of Sorrow expansion.

Why PlayStation Plus needs a separate check

Team Cherry’s announcement includes a note that some PS+ Game Catalogue copies were not offering the PS5 upgrade as intended and that the studio was speaking to Sony. That is a report attached to the announcement, not confirmation of today’s account eligibility. Our source check on 21 October 2026 did not establish whether every affected entitlement has been resolved.

Sony’s general upgrade guidance says PS4 games redeemed as a PlayStation Plus benefit are not eligible unless otherwise indicated. A Game Catalogue subscription, a monthly claimed game and a purchased copy are different ways of accessing a game. Do not assume one person’s offer applies to yours. Check the PS5 version in your account; if it is unclear or asks you to pay, ask PlayStation support before buying again.

Before you change versions

Keep your existing installation and save data until you have checked the platform’s instructions. This checklist does not establish save-transfer or cross-platform-save compatibility. It also does not test your account, subscription, disc or console. A store showing a version is not proof that your account owns it.
